September: Northland and Auckland News from Sinda, Jana and Sally

The July North Shore members meeting was a real treat. We were so lucky to have four of our service providers visit. Thank you to Marita Cairns, Lynne Walker, Claudine and Bev Domancie who gave reiki, massage and mini facials. Ten members attended and there was time for everyone to have a pamper, catch up and to meet with our new members. The Snug at Knightsbridge Village was a perfect venue for this with private spaces and those lovely comfy chairs.

This month at the Auckland Member’s Meeting we had Holistic health Therapist Meg Logan talking to us about Therapeutic breathing and Journaling. Meg Logan offers these topics with groups she sees at Dove House in Glendowie. Meg is enthusiastic about the practice of mindful breathing and how it can especially be of use when feeling tense and anxious. Some of the benefits Meg suggested were:

  1. Nourishing our bodies with oxygen
  2. Easing local and non-local tension, even when activity is limited
  3. Becoming active participants in our healing processes – allowing feelings and thoughts to be encouraging and self-supportive.

It was great to be taken though a little breathing exercise and feel relaxed afterwards.

A book that Meg recommended for anyone wanting to look further into this is ‘Breathing Matters’ By Dr Jim Bartley ENT specialist. Meg also talked briefly about journal writing for health and balance another activity that Meg has found to be very helpful in teaching us to develop attitudes and qualities that encourage the healing process.
