November: Mid Central News from Geraldine

“Spring is sprung, the grass is ris. I wonder where the birdies is?”

Well spring has certainly arrived along with the changeable weather, I feel excited when the sun is shinning only to be plummeted back into my winter clothes in a flash! We again enjoyed a lovely morning at the Cooperage cafe and were joined by Gen Kelsang Demo from the Amitabha Buddhist Centre, who shared with us her skills of ‘Simply Meditate’.

Meditation can be a very useful tool to remove busyness and mental distraction from our minds with the aim to reduce stress by putting a full stop in our mind, to stop those multiple stacks of tasks and thoughts. It also aims to give you a mental cleanup. Demo said we spend a lot of time on physical cleaning, but what about our minds? She shared with us some meditation lessons on breathing and concentration that I am sure with more practice will be very beneficial to enable us to be able to mentally wave off negative thoughts. Hopefully I will put it to good use with the oncoming busyness of Christmas!

Our new car has certainly enjoyed buzzing ‘about the place’ as I have journeyed up to Hawkes Bay, Wanganui and Taranaki. We have also been very fortunate to be able to attend a couple of fundraising events in Shannon at a V8 Hot Rod Ladies day out and at Turakina at Lynn and Wal Buchanan’s farm for a vintage farm machinery display – as pictured.

Christmas decorations are all about in the shops already as the ‘silly season’ bears down upon us so I wish you all the best for a lovely festive season with family and friends.
