Good for the soul

“Volunteering with Sweet Louise is good for the soul,” says good soul and Sweet Louise volunteer Adi Waters.

Adi is one of our team of super star volunteers who gift their time and skills to support New Zealanders living with incurable breast cancer.

“I have a beautiful friend, Karen, who has stage four breast cancer and is a member of Sweet Louise. She constantly talked about Sweet Louise and all the lovely things they do for their members.”

“One day, out of the blue, she asked if I would be with her when Sweet Louise came to her home to film her story (see video below).

“After that emotional day I always had it in my mind I wanted to be part of an organisation where I can help make a difference in people’s lives.”

“Karen invited me to come along to a Sweet Louise member meeting with her, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I met Nadine, a Sweet Louise Support Coordinator and she exuded compassion and the zest she has for her role and I thought – I want to be part of this.”

“I’ve been helping Sweet Louise with regular admin in the office. I was also extremely honoured to be asked to be part of the Sweet Louise team at a Māori Cancer Community Hui at the Marae in Pt Chevalier. It was such a wonderful experience.”

“A few weeks ago, I also played a part in Sweet Louise’s Giving Day. I spent the day with the team on the phones reaching out to the wonderful people who give generously to Sweet Louise. It was a magical day as Sweet Louise had reached their goal by midday – and then went over the revised goal amount! It was such a happy atmosphere that day.”

“What I enjoy most is the special sense of purpose to work for this great cause that makes a difference to the lives of New Zealanders with stage 4 breast cancer.”

“For anyone considering volunteering with Sweet Louise, I would highly recommend it and say give it all you have.”

“The reward of being part of Sweet Louise is that it is so good for the soul. It doesn’t matter what your role, it feels special to be part of this team that works for such an amazing cause.”

Thank you to Adi and to all our wonderful volunteers who make a huge contribution to our Sweet Louise community.
